●ちいさなメダルがたくさん！
皆さんこんにちは、ゴジラ太田です！
コツコツ進めていたモンスター100体討伐ですが、大型アップデート前に、ウェルナー隊長へ報告に行ってみました！
結果は、ちいさなメダルを一気に73枚獲得！ 過去に1回話しかけたときは22枚もらえていたので、100体討伐を達成したのは95体になります。少しずつ討伐モンスターリストが埋まっていくのが楽しかったので、これからもがんばろう！
●早くアップデート後の世界に行きたい
さて、いまごろは、皆さん(俺含め)大型アップデート後のアストルティアを楽しんでいると思います。本当はアップデート後のことをいろいろと書きたいのですが、残念ながら、このリポートを書いている時点では、まだ大型アップデートが行われていません(泣)。ここで大型アップデートに関する俺の予想などを書いても意味がなさそうなので、あえて触れないことにします（見当違いの予想をしていたら恥ずかしいですしね！）。
そこで今回は、2012年最後のリポートということもあるので、俺の“せんれき画面”を見ながら、いろいろと振り返ってみたいと思います。
■プレイ時間 879時間33分
ええと、『DQX』が発売されてから、このリポートを書いている時点で約145日くらいなので、単純に計算すると1日平均6時間ほどプレイしていたことになります。実際は休日などに長時間プレイしているので、平日のプレイ時間は少し短くなりますが、それでも十分過ぎるくらいプレイしたような気がします。これを見た瞬間、「うーん、ちょっと遊び過ぎたかな？」……などと反省するどころか、「もっとがんばって1000時間、いや、2000時間を目指そう！」と思ってしまいました。はい、俺はダメな大人です。よい子のみんなはマネしないように！
■戦闘勝利回数 49478回
惜しい！ 50000回まであと少し！ 他プレイヤーの“せんれき画面”を見たことがないので、この数字が多いのかどうかはわかりませんが、レベル上げや100体討伐、金策のための“ぬすむ”パーティ、リュウイーソー狩りなどなど、ひたすら戦闘していた記憶があるので、結構多いのかな？ と思います。ちなみに、戦闘回数30000回で称号をもらえましたが、40000回では何もありませんでした。
■倒したモンスターの種類 269種
俺はいわゆる“効率を求めるタイプ”なので、「経験値がおいしい！」と思えるモンスターを見つけたら、ひたすらそいつと戦い続けていることが多いです。そのため、戦ったモンスターの種類はあまり多くない感じでしょうか。
ちなみに、倒した数が多かったモンスターを調べてみたら、こんな感じのランキングになりました。
1位 ピンクモーモン 14079体
2位 トンブレロ 12215体
3位 リュウイーソー 7265体
4位 レッドプリン 7036体
5位 しびれだんびら 2155体
6位 どくろあらい 2151体

1位と2位は、予想どおりのピンクモーモンとトンブレロでした。『DQX』のサービス開始からプレイしている人なら、もはや説明不要でしょう。10月の大型アップデート前は、ピンクモーモンとトンブレロが経験値を稼ぎやすいモンスターの筆頭だったので、とにかくひたすら倒していました。
3位は、自分でも意外だったリュウイーソー！ “旅芸人の証”を装備して、金策目的で倒し始めたのがきっかけなのですが、割と最近の出来事です。確かに、思い返せば必死に倒し続けていたような……。ちなみに、“旅芸人の証”を装備していると、リュウイーソー1体で66ゴールド獲得できます。つまり7265体×66ゴールドで……。す、すげえ！
4位のレッドプリンは、いろいろな職業の経験値稼ぎで倒しまくったモンスターです。格闘スキルの“ばくれつけん”を修得していれば、職業を問わず戦いやすいので、ちょこちょことソロで稼ぐときにとてもお世話になりました。
5位～8位のしびれだんびら、どくろあらい、マリンスライム、ギズモは、魔法使いのレベル上げで倒したモンスターですね。イオ、ヒャダルコ最高です(´∀｀)
9位のマジカルハットは、カミハルムイ領南でピンクモーモンを倒していたときに、いっしょに出現していたものを倒した数だと思います。ついでに倒していただけなのに、1390体ってすごい(笑)。
10位のドロヌーバも、レッドプリンを倒していたときにいっしょに出現していたものですね。ついでに倒し(略)
■手に入れたアイテムの種類 239種
多いのか少ないのか、よくわかりません(笑)。
■覚えたレシピの数 0種
職人は、まだ手をつけていません(´・ω・｀)
一度始めてしまうと、あと戻りできなくなりそうで怖い……！
■クリアしたクエスト 60個
ほとんどのクエストは、職業クエストだと思います。あとは、配信クエストなどをちょこちょこと。まだ少ないですね。
■獲得称号数 201個
こちらも多いのか少ないのか、よくわかりません(笑)。
これまでを改めて振り返ってみると、「俺はすごくたくさんプレイしていたんだな」と思います。本作は『DQ』シリーズ初のオンラインゲームということで、アップデートでゲーム内容がどんどん進化していきます。愛してやまない『DQ』を、新鮮な気持ちでずっと遊び続けられるというこの状況は、俺にとって本当に幸せなことなのです。
●片手剣魔法戦士にするか、弓魔法戦士にするか
さて、大型アップデート後は、俺は真っ先に魔法戦士のレベルを上げているはず！ 物理攻撃で大ダメージを与えるのが大好きなので、バイキルトやフォースなど、物理職の救世主になるであろう魔法戦士に、超期待しています！
しかし、ここで俺的に問題なのが、メインとして使っていく武器です。片手剣か弓、どちらをメインにするか迷っているのですが……。
片手剣を選択した場合、スキルポイントを100まで振るために、戦士の“ゆうかん”スキルを下げる必要があります。細かく計算はしていませんが、おそらく“ゆうかん”で修得できる、“常時ちから+5”、“常時みのまもり+10”、“常時HP+30”あたりは、ポイントが足りずに修得できなくなりそう。
一方の弓を選択した場合は、レンジャーで弓スキルを100まで上げられるので、“ゆうかん”スキルは維持できます。4回攻撃の“さみだれ撃ち”も使えるので、攻撃力に関しては文句なし。“天使の矢”も、バイキルトやフォースをかけて使えば、MPを多く吸収できそうな気がします。
しかし、盾が装備できないことや、“さみだれ撃ち”が前方範囲の敵にランダム攻撃という性質上、敵が複数出現した場合は、弱点のフォースを使っても狙った敵を集中攻撃できないのが難点。まあ、そのときは通常攻撃をすればいいわけですが……。
そんなわけで、現時点(大型アップデート前)では、性能のいい片手剣と弓、どちらを買うか旅人バザーの前で一生悩んでいます。でも、こうやって悩んでいる時間も、けっこう楽しいんだよね(笑)。

これまでを改めて振り返ってみると、「俺はすごくたくさんプレイしていたんだな」と思います。本作は『DQ』シリーズ初のオンラインゲームということで、アップデートでゲーム内容がどんどん進化していきます。愛してやまない『DQ』を、新鮮な気持ちでずっと遊び続けられるというこの状況は、俺にとって本当に幸せなことなのです。
●片手剣魔法戦士にするか、弓魔法戦士にするか
さて、大型アップデート後は、俺は真っ先に魔法戦士のレベルを上げているはず！ 物理攻撃で大ダメージを与えるのが大好きなので、バイキルトやフォースなど、物理職の救世主になるであろう魔法戦士に、超期待しています！
しかし、ここで俺的に問題なのが、メインとして使っていく武器です。片手剣か弓、どちらをメインにするか迷っているのですが……。
片手剣を選択した場合、スキルポイントを100まで振るために、戦士の“ゆうかん”スキルを下げる必要があります。細かく計算はしていませんが、おそらく“ゆうかん”で修得できる、“常時ちから+5”、“常時みのまもり+10”、“常時HP+30”あたりは、ポイントが足りずに修得できなくなりそう。
一方の弓を選択した場合は、レンジャーで弓スキルを100まで上げられるので、“ゆうかん”スキルは維持できます。4回攻撃の“さみだれ撃ち”も使えるので、攻撃力に関しては文句なし。“天使の矢”も、バイキルトやフォースをかけて使えば、MPを多く吸収できそうな気がします。
しかし、盾が装備できないことや、“さみだれ撃ち”が前方範囲の敵にランダム攻撃という性質上、敵が複数出現した場合は、弱点のフォースを使っても狙った敵を集中攻撃できないのが難点。まあ、そのときは通常攻撃をすればいいわけですが……。
そんなわけで、現時点(大型アップデート前)では、性能のいい片手剣と弓、どちらを買うか旅人バザーの前で一生悩んでいます。でも、こうやって悩んでいる時間も、けっこう楽しいんだよね(笑)。

California man with girlfriend's corpse convicted of murder
STOCKTON, Calif. - A Stockton man prosecutors say lived with his girlfriend's rotting corpse for several months has been convicted of murder.
Sacramento television station CBS-13 reports that San Joaquin County jurors Wednesday found Devon Epps guilty of murder, as well as murder by torture, rape and other charges.
Epps was arrested after an apartment manager found the badly decomposed body of 35-year-old Veronica Jones in a bathtub when he went to evict Epps in December 2011.
At the time, Jones had been missing for six months.
The 37-year-old Epps is due back in court today for the sanity phase of the trial.
Prosecutors say a judge ordered a mental evaluation for Epps the first time he appeared in court because of his behaviour.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was discharged from a New York hospital on Wednesday after being treated for a blood clot near her brain and her doctors expect her to make a full recovery, the State Department said.
Clinton, who has not been seen in public since December 7, was at New York-Presbyterian Hospital under treatment for a blood clot behind her right ear that stemmed from a concussion she suffered in mid-December, the department said on Sunday.
The concussion was the result of an earlier illness, described by the State Department as a stomach virus she had picked up during a trip to Europe that led to dehydration and a fainting spell after she returned to the United States.
"Secretary Clinton was discharged from the hospital this evening. Her medical team advised her that she is making good progress on all fronts, and they are confident she will make a full recovery," Philippe Reines, a deputy assistant secretary of state, said in a statement.
Reines said Clinton was "eager to get back to the office."
Earlier, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily briefing Clinton had been talking with her staff by telephone and receiving memos.
Clinton also spoke to two foreign officials - the U.N. envoy on Syria and the prime minister of Qatar - on Saturday, the day before the State Department disclosed the blood clot and her stay at the hospital.
In a statement released by the State Department on Monday, Clinton's doctors said she was being treated with blood thinners and would be released from the hospital once the correct dosage had been determined.

Lawyer behind Newtown claim says meant to prevent future attacks
(Reuters) - The lawyer who filed and then quickly withdrew a $100 million legal claim against the state of Connecticut in the wake of the deadly Newtown elementary school shooting said on Wednesday his motive in the case is to prevent future school massacres and that he continues to investigate evidence for a future claim.
New Haven, Connecticut-based attorney Irving Pinsky, appearing on CNN, said his job is "to stop this happening again."
"It hurts me, but I know it's coming," Pinsky said, referring to the likelihood of a future attack on a school.
Pinsky, hired by the family of an unidentified six-year-old girl who survived the attack, said 20-year-old Adam Lanza's assault was a foreseeable event and officials failed to prevent it. Lanza's December 14 massacre left 20 first graders and six staff members dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, the second deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
"It had to be assumed that this was going to happen somewhere, sometime," Pinsky said.
When pressed with indications that Sandy Hook Principal Dawn Hochsprung, who was killed in the attack, had recently increased security measures, which appears to have forced Lanza to shoot his way through the main doors to gain entry to the school, Pinsky replied the entrance was supposed to be constructed of bulletproof glass.
Last week, Pinsky had filed notice with the state that he was seeking permission to sue the State of Connecticut Board of Education, Department of Education and Education Commissioner for what he claims were lapses that allowed the attack to occur.
On Monday Pinsky dropped his claim, but said on CNN he has a year to refile it and he is actively collecting evidence in that effort, echoing comments he made to Reuters on Tuesday.
He added that the state is not the only target of his investigation.
"We're not only going after the State of Connecticut," Pinsky said, without elaborating.
The survivor, referred to as Jill Doe, "has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined," the claim said.
On Monday, Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen called the claim misguided and said a public policy response by the U.S. Congress and the Connecticut state legislature would be more appropriate than legal action, according to a spokeswoman.
By law, any claim against the state must be approved by the state claims commissioner before it can move forward. The state attorney general serves as the state's defense attorney.
Lanza shot and killed his mother and took his own life as well, police said, in the violence which has prompted extensive debate about gun control and the suggestion by the National Rifle Association that schools be patrolled by armed guards.
Pinsky also indicated that backlash against him for filing the claim, including death threats, played a role in the decision to withdraw it. Asked why he had not chosen to pursue the NRA for its role in promoting the proliferation of firearms in the United States, Pinsky answered: "When you say something about the NRA you get double bonus death threats."

WASHINGTON (AP) — While the tax package that Congress passed New Year's Day will protect 99 percent of Americans from an income tax increase, most of them will still end up paying more federal taxes in 2013.
That's because the legislation did nothing to prevent a temporary reduction in the Social Security payroll tax from expiring. In 2012, that 2-percentage-point cut in the payroll tax was worth about $1,000 to a worker making $50,000 a year.
The Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan Washington research group, estimates that 77 percent of American households will face higher federal taxes in 2013 under the agreement negotiated between President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans. High-income families will feel the biggest tax increases, but many middle- and low-income families will pay higher taxes too.
Households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will face an average tax increase of $579 in 2013, according to the Tax Policy Center's analysis. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will face an average tax increase of $822.
"For most people, it's just the payroll tax," said Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.
The tax increases could be a lot higher. A huge package of tax cuts first enacted under President George W. Bush was scheduled to expire Tuesday as part of the "fiscal cliff." The Bush-era tax cuts lowered taxes for families at every income level, reduced investment taxes and the estate tax, and enhanced a number of tax credits, including a $1,000-per-child credit.
The package passed Tuesday by the Senate and House extends most the Bush-era tax cuts for individuals making less than $400,000 and married couples making less than $450,000.
Obama said the deal "protects 98 percent of Americans and 97 percent of small business owners from a middle-class tax hike. While neither Democrats nor Republicans got everything they wanted, this agreement is the right thing to do for our country."
The income threshold covers more than 99 percent of all households, exceeding Obama's claim, according to the Tax Policy Center. However, the increase in payroll taxes will hit nearly every wage earner.
Social Security is financed by a 12.4 percent tax on wages up to $113,700, with employers paying half and workers paying the other half. Obama and Congress reduced the share paid by workers from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent for 2011 and 2012, saving a typical family about $1,000 a year.
Obama pushed hard to enact the payroll tax cut for 2011 and to extend it through 2012. But it was never fully embraced by either party, and this time around, there was general agreement to let it expire.
The new tax package would increase the income tax rate from 35 percent to 39.6 percent on income above $400,000 for individuals and $450,000 for married couples. Investment taxes would increase for people who fall in the new top tax bracket.
High-income families will also pay higher taxes this year as part of Obama's 2010 health care law. As part of that law, a new 3.8 percent tax is being imposed on investment income for individuals making more than $200,000 a year and couples making more than $250,000.
Together, the new tax package and Obama's health care law will produce significant tax increases for many high-income families.
For 2013, households making between $500,000 and $1 million would get an average tax increase of $14,812, according to the Tax Policy Center analysis. Households making more than $1 million would get an average tax increase of $170,341.
"If you're rich, you're almost certain to get a big tax increase," Williams said.

Philippine port operator pulls out of Syria
MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- A Philippine container port operator has decided to pull out of Syria and withdrew all its Filipino workers from a key port due to increasing dangers from the country's civil war, company officials said Wednesday.
The withdrawal of Manila-based International Container Terminal Services Inc., through its Syrian subsidiary Tartus International Container Terminal, or TICT, could effectively derail cargo services at the northwest port city of Tartus.
The Philippine company was the sole container operator in Tartus through a concession granted by Syria's Ministry of Transport, according to ICTSI Senior Vice President Hans-Ole Madsen.
Tens of thousands of people are believed to have been killed since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began in March 2011. An analysis released Wednesday by the United Nations says at least 60,000 people have died, with scores of armed groups across the country fighting regime forces.
The Syrian civil war "has exposed everyone, combatants and civilians alike, to increasing threat of death and destruction on a daily basis," the company said in a report to the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission.
In a separate statement it said that "to continue operations in Syria under those circumstances was clearly unsustainable and dangerous to TICT personnel."
Since 2011, ICTSI said it had been operating under extremely difficult conditions in Syria as a result of trade sanctions by the European Union and the United States and the closing to trade of the Syria-Iraqi border. Tartus should have been the staging point for transshipment trade to and from Iraq, the company said.
The crisis has set back trade growth and forecasts, the company added.
When ICTSI made its bid to operate the Tartus port in 2005, "Syria's container market was growing and on track as projected. However, volumes started to plummet by 4 percent in 2010 and 14 percent by end 2011. The drop has set the Syrian container market back five to six years at 2006-2007 levels," it said.
ICTSI said its subsidiary TICT, which signed a 10-year investment agreement with Tartus Port General Co. in 2007 to operate and develop the container port terminal, had paid more than $13 million in port fees and rentals to the Syrian company.
But it said when TICT sought help amid the unrest, its Syrian partner refused to extend any assistance, which the Philippine company said was provided for under the agreement.
ICTSI, which was established in 1987 in the Philippines, said its container port operations in other countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Poland, Croatia and Brazil, would not be affected by the shutdown of its business in Syria.

Plan for NYC Ferris wheel rolls on, despite Sandy
NEW YORK (AP) — As the city grapples with rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, developers are pressing ahead with plans for an ambitious addition to the shoreline of storm-torn Staten Island: the world's largest Ferris wheel.
Sandy's flooding spurred some changes to the nearly $500 million project, which includes an outlet mall and hotel. But developers haven't slowed it or scaled it back. Supporters say Staten Island needs the boost now more than ever.
Yet some residents, a city watchdog and a planning group have asked whether it makes sense to push ahead with a 625-foot-tall tourist attraction, set partly in a flood zone, before officials take a comprehensive look at how to build smarter after Sandy. And some say it's unseemly to talk about amusement rides when Sandy has left a trail of loss.
The storm gave wheel developer Richard Marin "momentary pause," he said. But he quickly decided to keep going on a project he considers a one-of-a-kind boon for the city's oft-dubbed "forgotten borough."
"We're providing some things for the city and for the local community that they would have no other way of getting right now," said Marin, the chief executive of New York Wheel LLC. "Quite frankly, this borough is extremely lucky that this kind of project is under way."
The company is looking to line up a multimillion-dollar sponsor by April, with serious interest from a half-dozen companies at the moment, as the project works its way through various government reviews, Marin said.
The city Economic Development Corp., which is playing a leading role in the reviews, says it's "as committed as ever" to the plan. Private money will pay for the project, and the city would get $2.5 million a year in rent for two parking lots where the wheel, mall and hotel would be.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg envisions the attraction becoming one of the city's premier draws, offering vistas of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty to as many as 30,000 riders a day. Sen. Charles Schumer has called the wheel "Staten Island's Eiffel Tower." Developers aim to get it going by the end of 2015.
The project is several miles from the Staten Island communities Sandy struck hardest. Still, the storm pushed 3 to 4 feet of seawater onto the wheel and mall sites, developers said.
The project was already planned so ground floors would sit above what the federal government has, at least to this point, considered a once-in-100-year flood. But the 100-shop outlet center and 200-room hotel are already being raised another 2 feet. The wheel's terminal building may also be moved up.
Nonetheless, since Sandy, the developers have been making sure the buildings can withstand flooding, Marin said. Surfaces on the wheel terminal's ground floor are now being planned in marble or other materials that can withstand seawater. Marin said developers are ensuring that electrical and mechanical equipment will be 30 feet above sea level, and the wheel itself will be designed to withstand sustained winds up to 129 mph, far stronger than Sandy's.
Mall and hotel developer BFC Partners is also elevating key equipment and looking at stone or a water-resistant wall material for the most vulnerable store spaces, partner Joseph Ferrara said. After residents expressed concerns that the mall's four finger-like buildings could channel a storm surge into the neighborhood, the company is thinking about designing the garages to serve as massive retention pools if needed, said Ferrara, who lives on Staten Island.
"Obviously, my heart goes out to the people who did lose what they lost, but we have to just forge ahead," he said, pointing to the amenities, 1,200 construction jobs and 1,250 permanent jobs the combined development is expected to create. "To me, that's an incredible opportunity that Staten Island should not lose out on."
The developers' stormproofing plans have addressed some residents' concerns, said David Goldfarb, an officer in a nearby neighborhood group. While some residents have misgivings, particularly about traffic, there's also an appetite for seeing something rise on a property where development plans have been broached and shelved for decades, he said.
But in Sandy's wake, some Staten Island residents are questioning whether it's the right time and place for the attraction.
Nancy Rooney, a nurse who lives and works on the island, went to a public meeting about the project last month and left with a rueful feeling about it.
"It was in poor taste to be discussing a Ferris wheel and all this glamor — it was very hard to embrace this when you knew that your colleagues and their family members were devastated, and there were people who don't have heat or electricity or homes," she said later.
Several City Council members and state legislators said in a letter they were aghast that the meeting was held little more than two weeks after the Oct. 29 storm, though they remained "generally supportive" of the project.
Marin said that developers were aware of the concerns, but that the meeting would have taken months to reschedule because of public-notice requirements.
Others say the wheel should wait until the city thinks through what Sandy will mean for waterfront building.
"Before the storm, I don't think that anyone had really given much consideration to the fact that these projects are being built in a flood plain," said Beryl Thurman, a Staten Island environmental activist. She thinks the attraction "should be put on a back burner until the city of New York can come up with real answers."
The city Independent Budget Office, a watchdog agency, and the Municipal Arts Society, a nonprofit urban planning group, both spotlighted the Ferris wheel plan in separate blog posts wondering what development lessons the city will learn from Sandy.
Building the Ferris wheel and other waterfront projects without a citywide look at coastal building "increases the risk that the next 'superstorm' will exact an even higher price tag," IBO spokesman Doug Turetsky wrote.
But to Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, Sandy's blow is no reason to step back from what he sees as a transformative project for the battered borough. If anything, it's just the opposite.
"We have to show the community, and we have to show the world, we're coming back," he said.
